An Essay on Ephesians 5:27
Let’s start simple. God is many things – named many things. He is the Alpha & Omega, He is the Beginning and End, King above All Kings – but I want to go a little deeper. Who is God? How do I see Him as my Groom.
God is Love.
The most genuine example of how God is love is shown in John 3:16.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
God loves me so deeply that He sent His one Son to suffer on the cross and take the weight of the world so I could live forever in His grace.
God is Joy.
How do I know that God is joy? He is joy because His laughter spills into my heart. It overflows in my soul.
God is Patience.
I am not perfect, but God’s patience for my life encourages me every single day. There have been a few times in my life when I have slowly and secretly tried to close the door on God. But in the end I always realized that I have to return to His blessings. I open the door to His mercy and continue to patiently wait for everything. I always feel rushed – like I should grow up faster, set a higher example for my sisters and friends, but I know God is patiently helping that growth along in His time.
God is Mighty.
Sometimes I forget how awesome God is. I get too distracted to realize what the most powerful thing in my life is. How do I remind myself how mighty God is? I try to imagine the Creation. A Voice in the void speaking everything into existence. History began with His voice.
God is my Warrior.
The world is not only a creation of God, but evil hunts here. Conformity tempts me. And while the enemy of my soul constantly shoots his flaming arrows at me I know my God stands before me.
“… on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” Matthew 16:18 ESV
God and His angel armies go before me to fight for me. I can rest peacefully knowing I am safe.
Focusing on Christ as my Groom shows my value as His Bride through the actions and examples I follow. God is leading my heart and I trust Him so purely and innocently and trust Him to never break it. I find my value in Him through the relationships I have. Sharing His grace makes me valuable. I thank Him for that each and every day.
