My name is Sara.
When I was 7 years old I accepted Christ into my heart at a Missionette camp. I remember the preacher that night made the altar call around the bonfire in the middle of the woods. I realize now that moment was only the beginning of what God had in store for the future. I put my life in God’s hands that night and stepped into a beautiful adventure with Him.
When my husband Trevor and I got married, we both made a vow to God that we would work in His ministry wherever He called us. We planned to stay in Missouri for another year and then we would both start praying to see where God would send us. But we prayed through our planning as well because we want our hearts to always be attentive to His leading. Soon we learned that God wanted us to leave Missouri much sooner than we expected.
Within 2 months of becoming “husband and wife”, Trevor received a phone call from a pastor in New Orleans, who wanted us to come out and visit his church plant. We both hesitated a bit at first, but in the end we looked at each other and said, “Why not?”.
Visiting New Orleans was an eye opening experience. Trevor and I liked the city, but we both fell in love with the people we met.
Saints Community Church is an Assemblies of God church plant meeting in a Jr. High gym. Every Sunday volunteers from the church get together at 7 a.m. to transform the gym into a church, then they tear it all back down at the end of service and then do it all over again the next Sunday. It’s pretty admirable! When Trevor and I walked into the building, we both sensed a dramatic peace and God inviting us to be a part of Saints Community Church.
Trevor and I have been living in New Orleans for the past 2 months and our experience has been indescribable. We are both learning and growing spiritually and our hearts are deeply committed to serving this community. At our wedding, we both promised to live a life to serve others wherever we may find ourselves… and here we are!
New Orleans was never in our plan, but it has been a far better adventure than we could ever imagine. We could always stress out about “what’s the next step” in our lives, but there’s no need for that. Wherever you find yourself and whatever agenda you may have in life, give it to Jesus. Once you devote your life to Him, God will grab your hand and take your life into another level. It will take your breath away and it will be far better than anything you could imagine. I promise.
“For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord….” Jeremiah 29:11 His plans will take you farther than you ever dreamed possible. His plans promise an adventure and the ticket has been paid in full by Jesus. All you have to do is say, “YES” in that moment that he calls your heart to him. Enjoy the journey!
