The Dress: Bruised to Faith-guarded

But it was our sins that did that to him,

that ripped and tore and crushed him—our sins!

He took the punishment, and that made us whole.

Through his bruises we get healed. Isaiah 53:5 (The Message)

We talk a lot about what we deserve or don’t deserve. All any of us deserve is to be ripped and torn and crushed for our sins. Because of Jesus, we get what we don’t deserve, a shield of faith to block the enemy’s jabs at us.

He took the punishment, and that made us whole.

Made whole! Christ’s love makes us whole is how Ephesians 5:26 declares the Gospel. No longer ripped and torn and crushed – no longer punished. Made whole, beautiful – in him we are at our best – dazzling, radiant, and pure.

The enemy will continue to throw “fiery darts” at us attempting to catch us off guard without that shield of faith in place. When we choose to wear our wounds instead of our faith we don’t go near the battlefield, we stay in a tent and get help. There is a time for that. And when the healing is accepted we get up and charge out into the fight with our faith protecting us. Don’t ever charge onto the battlefield without your shield of faith. Sometimes you’ll find you are the only one who is willing to go to battle. You can run out with a radiant countenance, dressed in compassion for those you love, with every other piece of armor on and you will get a lot farther than most but if you don’t have your shield of faith in front of you to take the fire – you will go down. You’re faith protects you from the deep tears and hard blows of the enemy – deep wounds capable of taking you out of the battle for days, months, even years. Your strong faith will not only protect you but it will take fire for those you love as well. The enemy will always go for the strongest biggest target but if your faith is in Jesus he CANNOT take you out. Those whose shields are not as big as yours will get behind you for protection – let Jesus protect them. At times you will need to get behind the bigger faith of another – let Jesus protect you. Keep your shield up right in front of you, and you won’t have any other option but to keep your eyes on The Groom!
